Nanshan Lake

Nanshan Lake is in southwest Shengzhou, Shaoxing City. It’s a manmade lake which was constructed in 1960s to meet the needs of farmland irrigation of the regions around. With an area of 660 acres, the lake ripples gently in the breeze. Its water is as clear as crystal with fishes swimming leisurely. Surrounded by green hills, star-studded with small islets, the lake is like a glittering pearl inserted in the source of Shan River. You may enjoy boating, sightseeing, angling, and swimming there.

There is a big dam over the lake. The dam is more than 72 meters high, 242 meters long. It is made of stone and soil. Standing at the bottom of the dam and looking up, you will find the 400-stone-step stairway which leads you to the dam top looks like a ladder to Heaven. Ascending to the top, you may appreciate the idyllic countryside of south China. The crisscross irrigation canals and ditches, the winding country roads, and the country houses all provide you with a distinctive feast for your eyes. Looking southwards far into the distance, you can enjoy a beautiful scenery of water and green hills. At the dam bottom, there is an elaborately-designed hotel, which has complete infrastructure and offers comprehensive service. In front of the hotel is a broad parking lot with a stone-paved road leading directly to the dam top. It’s a splendid attraction for a weekend trip.
