Shanghai Pudong New Area

Shanghai Pudong New Area located in the east of Shanghai is right in the middle of China’s open area along the coast. It includes the delta from the east of Huangpu River to the estuary of the Yangtze River. The total coverage is 533.44 square kilometers and the total population is 2.8 million (up to 2003).

In 1990, the central government of China made a great policy to exploit Pudong area of Shanghai.Shanghai municipal government followed the strategic blueprint of Central government and made the guideline of developing Pudong, prevailing Shanghai, serving China and facing world. In 2005, Shanghai municipal government defined Pudong's functions as four points: with the precondition of erecting and fulfilling the viewpoint of scientific development, structuring socialistic harmonious society, and bringing the Four-Center national strategy into effect.
