No.4.Shigatse - Gama Valley Trekking(嘎玛沟)

Time needed: 10 to 15 days

As early as the 1920s, this trail has been reputed as one of the Top Ten Classic Hiking Trails on Earth. You will traverse Mt Everest Nature Reserve, communicate with the diligent Shepard people as well as get awe-struck by world-class snow-capped peaks and incidentally come eye to eye with endangered wildlife.

This trail is for the true intrepid and experienced. The weather is ever-changing, the elevation is high, the air is thin and the trail is remote and bumpy. You can travel for several days without meeting a single human being.

No 5.: Zayu County下察隅(察瓦龙乡)——Gongshan, Yunnan (Bingzhongluo丙中洛乡)

Time needed: 20-25 days

The mere mention of Tea Horse Road will send shivers down the spine of romantic travellers like me. This economy artery also doubles as a cultural corridor. Numerous dynasties rose and fell, this caravan route still beckons for its glorious past, enchanting scenery, colorful tribal lifestyles which have inspired so much movies and documentaries. I once chanced upon a Korean director named Hong Xi, who produced the Korean edition documentary: Tea Horse Road. When asked the motivation behind producing this documentary, he confessed this is his favorite trail across China, a dream land.

To fulfill this trek, well-built body, well-equipped gears and an informative guide are necessary.

No.6. Motuo 5 to 7 days

Motuo is the last hidden world. As the rest of China modernizes at head-spinning speed, it remains off the limit of car-obsessed travellers, for there is no highway leading to it. It is a paradise for backpackers and hikers.

No.7:Lhozhag County 1 to 2 days

This hiking route is pleasant and easy. Mountains here are not so high and abrupt. The scenery is enchanting. You can also hire horses in villages along the trail.

Highlight: Saika Gutuo Temple (塞卡古托寺): It is the ancestral temple of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. There is also a lake at the foot of Mount Kulagangri. Staring into this lake, one can see his or her past and future.

No.9:Zhari Mountain (扎日转山) Cuoga Lake(措嘎湖)

Time needed: 3 to 5 days

According to Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism and Bon religion, Zhari Mountain is the holy abode of the guardians of the Buddha. During the Monkey year, pilgrims throng this mountain to pray. The scenery, if not exceeds, equals to that of the Nyingchi Prefecture. Cuoga Lake is the abode of flying apsaras. Many years ago, a couple from Beijing went to this lake for pilgrimage, the wife died in an accident. This story is very famous. In a hotel in Namtso, you can still see the love poem left by her husband.

No10. Trekking along Namtso Lake 7 to 10 days

When in Tibet, do what the Tibetans do. A trip to Tibet is incomplete without circumambulating its holy mountains and sacred lakes. Namtso Lake is one of Top Four Tibetan Holy Lakes. I have visited many holy lakes in Tibet, while Namtso is the only one I want to revisit. I will never forget the bonfire party held in its bank in last year. We displayed fireworks, singing and dancing at 24:00, under the starlit sky. I also remember a Tibetan woman cried when saw this lake in the distance and wept when reaching its bank. It is the power of divine aspiration. Her tears moved me so much.
