Fenghua Xikou

Xikou (溪口), one of the first opening towns to the outside world after carrying out the policy of reform and opening-up, is a brilliant emerald inlaying in the harbor city Ningbo. It has won the favors of the tourists all over world for its integrity of Buddhist culture, humanities and natural sceneries. It enjoys convenient transportation and boasts its title of “China’s Home of Juicy Beach”, which adds more charms to it.

The Xikou Scenic Area is 20 kilometers away from Ningbo City, next to Wuling Mountain Range in the east, Shanxi Brook in the south and Xuedou Mountain in the north. The brook goes around the mountain and it has beautiful landscapes. It was said that the Lost World written by Tao Yuanming happened to be today’s Xikou. It was later notable for the old residences of Chiang Kai-shek and his son Chiang Ching-Kuo – two important historical figures in modern history of China. It was honored as “the key national level scenic resort”, “an AAAA state-grade tourist area” and “one of top ten fairylands in Zhejiang Province”.

The spot has a total view area of 140 square kilometers including the humanistic sight of the Chiang’s former residences, the famous Qianzhangyan Waterfall and Xufuyan Waterfall, the twisting Shanxi Brook, where the great calligraphist Wang Xizhi secluded, and one of China's ten famous Zen Buddhist temples called Xuedouzi Buddhist Temple. Since it was the holy land for Maitreya Bodhisattva, in the past hundreds years, the tide of worshipers have never ebbed away.

Wuling Mountain Range is the shield of Xikou. Go through the grand Wuling Gate, when the horizons spring wide and you will see the 1500-meter-long street built along the brook. Chiang Kai-shek’s birth house and his ancestral residence are located here.

Now, the Xikou Scenic Area is attracting an endless flow of tourists at home and abroad with a new visage.
