  is situated in the west bank of the

Qinhuai River

  in downtown Nanjing, and the park that associated with it is the 1500-year history garden, having abundant of cultural heritage and artistic architecture. It is also a historical site of the six ancient dynasties in China.

Mochou, the name of a young and beautiful woman with a good heart from Luoyang lived during the years of Nanqi (479 - 502 AD) in the Northern-Southern Dynasty. She mastered in embroidery when she was still in her teens. Because of her family's poverty, she married a man from the wealthy Lu family in Nanjing and had a baby. The couple lived a happy and peaceful life. One day, Lu was recruited to the army and there had been no news of him since he had left. She missed her husband very much in every minute. Overwhelmed by the deep sadness, Mochou jumped into the lake in

Nanjing

  that she naively hoped of flowing to her husband's side and she died. In memory of her inextinguishable love to her husband, the lake was named Mochou by Nanjing people.

  is being heralded as "The First Lake in the Yangtze Delta Region" and "The Best among the 48 Attractions in Nanjing". The recommended spots in the

Mochou Lake Park

 are the Former Residence of Mochou, the Hall of Winning a Chess Game, the Grave of Martyrs of Guangdong Army, the Pavilion in the Middle of the Lake and the Sino-Japanese Friendly Garden. A 2m-height white marble statue of Mochou erected in the Lotus Pool of the Former Residence of Mochou is one of the symbolic sightseeing spots in Nanjing.

In 2004, the Nanjing Government aimed to make the

Mochou Lake Park

  as a tourist attraction in demonstrating the unique essence of local culture and Chinese classical architecture. Now the Mochou Lake Park becomes a large garden with a lot of valuable interests and worth-seeing scenery.
