Datang Miao Walled Town

 

There is an ancient but fashionable tribe of Miao nationality living in the mountainous southeastern part of Guizhou Province in southwestern China. For over five hundred years, their young girls and women have worn "miniskirts" regardless how seasons and weathers change. These skirts are only over ten centimeters long. Other people among the Miao ethnic group called them "the Short Miao Skirts". This is an eye-catching specialty in the Datang Walled Town (大塘苗寨). 

In addition to the gorgeous and charming costume worn by local girls, an architectural spectacular is also seen here. The barn built on the water in a small village of Xinqiao in Datang was heralded by dam specialists as "rare and unique". 

It is interesting and indulging to see that the barn was constructed just above a reservoir in old times with traditional and subtle design. It has the preventative functions of fire, rodents and pests that clearly reflected the wisdom of ancient Miao people.
