The majestic tower documents the fine architectural art in the Northern Song Dynasty

The tower scenic area is in northeastern Kaifeng city, and it is neighboring the old Kaifeng city wall. 

The tower was built in 1049. It is height 55.88 meters, with thirteen levels and its base is octagonal. At that time, there was a Buddhist Temple, Kaibao, so it had once been called Kaibao Temple Pagoda. Later in the Yuan Dynasty, people called it the Iron Tower because its color was in deep brown, like rusted steel, though it was built of wood with tiles as its surface.

The "iron" tower is known for its profound architectural art. The tiles' surfaces on the pagoda have broken trenches, which seem to have hit by axe when building, well seamed in every part of the architecture that has made it strong. When looking from afar, the iron tower is slim and tall. If you walk much closer to it, you can see the beautiful details on the tiles, Buddhist images, animal patterns and dancing figures and so on, they are lively and vigorous.

Additionally, Kaifeng Tower Scenic Area has a Buddhist temple, a memorial pavilion, a document exhibition hall and a water playground. It is an ideal place for appreciating Chinese ancient tower and playing games.
