Liudongshan Mountain Scenic Area

 

 

It is 6 kilometers away from the eastern outskirts of Lanxi, designated as an AAA state-level tourist area and the first provincial-level scenic resorts. The six caves in its name refer to the Surging Snow Cave, Purple Glow Cave, Funnel Cave, Bottomless Cave, Hehe Cave and Clear Dew Cave. It consists of such three spots as Underground Long River, Qixia Garden and Xizhen Temple.

 

Crowned as “best in the sea”, the tour to the Underground Long River is length 2,500 meters, which is divided into three sections: Surging Snow Cave, The Tunnel of Time and Clear Dew Cave. Each of them is a fine example that displays the development of the water-eroded cave in varied periods. In the Surging Snow Cave, a hidden underground river length more than one kilometer runs through from beginning to end. The source of the river hasn’t been proved up as yet. The temperature of the cave stays in 18 centigrade all year round, thus it will be warm in winter and cool in summer. Rowing a boat on the river, you will feel as if you were taken into a fairyland. The Clear Dew Cave is hollow and has its top high up in the sky. The cave is filled with fantastic formations-stalagmite, stalactites and flowstone eroded by the air and water. The exotic scenery is also available in a short distance in the Tunnel of Time, of extremely high ornamental and scientific research value.

 

Dongyuan Village (洞源村) is the very locality of the Liudongshan Scenic Area, neighboring hills and close to water. It has borne countless outstanding people. The general Zhang Xueliang’s wife named Qixia formerly lived here. Thus, her residence was called Qixia Garden. It is a building ornamented with fine brick designs and woodcarvings characteristic of the Qing Dynasty.

 

The ancient Qizhen Temple houses 6000 volumes of Da Zang Jing. It is a translation of the sutra, which was brought by Tang Seng (Monk) from his journey to the west, providing precious materials for the study of ancient Chinese Culture. The legendary Huanghui Buddhist Temple tells a stunning story : In the Ming Dynasty, the uncle (Zhu Di) and the nephew (Zhu Yun) struggled for the throne, and the nephew converted to Buddhism and became a monk ultimately. Here is the seat of his tomb.
