Huang Daxian (Wong Tai Sin) Temple

Huang Daxian was born in Jinhua in 328 AD. At the age of 15, he was introduced to practice Taoism in a cave of Jinhua Mountain. Forty years later, he was able to transform the stones into sheep. From then on, he began to travel around the world and gave help to the victims if necessary, becoming a people’s hero of expelling witches and evils, and promoting benevolent behavior.

A Swedish Sinologist’s book entitled “Wong Tai Sin in Hong Kong” unfolded the historic page of his significant impact on Hong Kong. He was said to move to Hong Kong and turned the original uninhabited land into a world-famous city. In 1921, worshippers formed an organization called Sik Sik Yuen and built Wong Tai Sin Temple in Kowloon. In Hong Kong people’s eyes, Huang Daxian was counted as a god who brings fortune to people and dominates the fate of students, also a patron saint guarding against evils. Most people who visit the temple want their fortune told, as well as happiness, safety and health. It was reported that on his birthday in 1996, Hong Kong people’ subscription to him came to 30,000,000 HK Dollars.

The lofty temple lies in the state-level scenic spot of Double Dragons, with a land area of 7.9 hectares. All the things ranging from the temple, the palace and the instruments are large in size, boasted as the Three Largeness. Between the Chisong Temple and Ling Temple, there is an altar with a diameter of 18 meters, when you stand on it and talk to yourself or to your friends on the opposite side, you will hear strong echo and acoustic resonance. The sound goes as if it was in a hollow valley, and makes you have an illusion that you heard the sound of nature.
