Chengkan Ancient Village

 

 

Chengkan ancient village has 22 nation-class protection sites of cultural relics. It has more than 1800 year’s history. This village initially was established in Three Kingdoms Period. Early in Song Dynasty, the great neo-Confucianism master Zhu Xi highly spoke of it as the No.1 village in southern China. It is located in Chengkan town in Huizhou district. It is 27 kilometers away from the downtown of Huangshang city and 3 kilometers away from national highway No.205 and 45 kilometers away from Huangshan Scenic Zone.

Chengkan village originally is called Longxi, and this name comes from the theory of Eight Diagrams. Cheng means Yang and Kan means Yin. On the construction of village, Chengkan Eight-Diagram Village is built according to this theory, the east is Qian (Heaven), the west is Kun (Earth), the south is Li (Fire) and the north is Kan (Water), which shows the theory of eight diagrams, besides there are also eight mountains surrounded this village, and they also form the natural structure of eight diagrams. The human eight diagrams and natural eight diagrams are integrative and show the big wonder of Chinese ancient villages.

Chengkan eight-diagram village traditionally is thought to be the treasured place. It is also the mysterious place for human to learn the life secret. The deep and complicated theory of Eight Diagrams is closely connected with natural environment, social harmony, and village residence and so on. In the past, a lot of famous people appeared in different fields.
