Mingjiao Temple

Mingjiao Temple is located near to the Xiaoyaojin Park. Its original name is Tiefo Temple, in English, Iron-Buddha Temple, also called Mingjiao Platform. This temple was established in South & North Dynasties until in the Sui Dynasty, this temple was destroyed. During the time from 766 to 779, an iron Buddha statue was discovered. The administrator of Luzhou informed the central government for reestablishing this temple, and the central government also permitted and named it Mingjiao Yuan. Up to Ming Dynasty, it is renamed to be Mingjiao Temple. In 1853 it was collapsed by battle. During the time of Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty, it was rebuilt again and in 1937, partially it was damaged by Japanese air bombing. After the foundation of New China, it has been reconstructed for several times. In 1983, it was chosen to be the national key temples.
