Guangdong Provincial Museum

 

 

Located on Wen Ming Road (文明路), at the old address of Sun Yat-sen University (中山大学) in Guangzhou, built in 1957 and opened two years later for tourists. Guangdong Provincial Museum collects 125,000 relics, of which mostly locally found heritage. Chinese National First Class collection includes Song Dynasty's Dark Ink Dragon Painting by Chen Rong, white Sakyamuni Buddha Statue and Qing Dynasty's precious ink stone. Guangdong Provincial Museum reveals the long cultural, economic and political history of the southern China's province by displaying the ancient relics and old documents.

The outdoor exhibition area displays the three steel cannons used by local civilians to resist the British forces' invasion during the Opium War and a giant aerosiderite, which was a very large piece of steel, about 4,000 kilograms, fallen from the sky in Guangdong's Yingde County (英德县) about 300 years ago.
