Ancestral Temple of Chen Family

 

 

 

Ancestral Temple of Chen Family is the typical representative of classical architectural characteristics and styles of Guangdong province. Shortly, it is constituted with front garden, west garden, east garden and rear garden. Totally, it covers more than 15,000 square meters. To be more specific and concrete, the temple is a compound complex consisting of nine halls, six courtyards and nineteen buildings connected by corridors, all separated by walls from the outside world. A pair of stone drums in front of the entrance door, measuring 2.55 meters in height and two colored drawing pictures of door-god of four meters (about 13 feet) height are said to be the best in Guangdong. The center of building complex is Ju Xian Tang(聚贤堂, Hall Gathering Virtue, which is a chief building with more than 20 meters long. In accordance with the aesthetics of Chinese ancient architecture, diversities of buildings are scientifically located in this definite area. The architectural ornament is mainly featured by its wood carvings, stone carvings, brick carvings, ceramic carvings, frescos and iron-made or copper-made craftworks.

In 2002, Ancestral Temple of Chen Family was listed Eight Top Attractions of Guangzhou, named"古祠留芳"(Fragrance Remained in Ancestral Temple). Currently, one of stops of No. 1 Line of Subway is situated near to this classical attraction. In front of the ancestral temple, there is also a large greening square for visitors' leisure and amusement.
