 has been well-known at home and abroad for its long history, abundant cultural heritage and magnificent landscape. The ethnic people and their passion are very impressive as well. In 1982 the Chinese government announced Dali to become one of the 24 cultural cities in China.

In today's Dali, the roads and streets are still maintained the styles popular during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, that is, the layout looks like a chessboard. Traditionally, the locals called this as "nine streets with eighteen narrow lanes", which is seen as a giant net.
