The Emperor Wang Jian (847 - 918 AD) of Shu State during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period (618 - 907 AD) represents honest, diligence and kind to his staff. At the time during his reign, Shu was being the most stable stage in its society, strongest in its national power and Chengdu was the most prosperous city in China then.
Yong Mausoleum was built for burying the great emperor. Lies on Yong Ling Road in the northwest of the Chengdu, the mausoleum was excavated in 1942 and found a lot of cultural relics there. This historical heritage is a very valuable venue for archeological research of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period.
The Yong Mausoleum (Wang Jian's Grave) has been raided many times by thieves, but the things left are the main architecture and its stone craftworks and other relics, for which can still be regarded as the artistic essences of the whole mausoleum. It has a circular "tomb envelop" measures 80 m in diameter and stands 15 m tall with 14 archways that made of gray bricks. The wooden doors divide the burial chamber into front, middle and back ones with a total length about 23 m. The coffin rests in the middle room on a bed, which the image of twelve Hercules and the mural of 24 musicians with local instruments are carved onto stone surfaces on the east, south and west sides of it.
