1.Sections of Great Wall near Beijing City

 

There are 10 sections introduced here, and among them, Badaling, Mutianyu, Simatai and Juyongguan Pass are sections officially opened to tourists, while Arrow Nock, Huanghuacheng are "Wild Great Wall" which are not officially opened but haunted by tourists who like adventures.

 

Badaling

Built in 1505 in the Ming Dynasty, it is one of the Top Nine Strongholds, the best preserved section of the Great Wall as well as the most representative one.
 
Renowned by magnificent architecture, complete facilities and profound culture content, it is also the earliest section open to tourists. Located in South of Yanqing County and belongs to the northwest part of Beijing City zone. It served as a vital military pass and an important barrier against the northern minority’s harassment. It is divided into two parts: southern part and northern part. Southern part is very steep and dangerous, which is less visited, a blessing for those who prefer adventure hiking. Featuring relatively safe and dependable climbing conditions the northern part attracts larger number of visitors, and during the peak season, it is extremely crowded. Best visit seasons: April, May, September and October. Numerous political leaders have left their footprint here, so join us to see what they saw.
 
Mutianyu

Mutianyu section of the Great Wall preserves the original look the Great Wall without any restoration. It is totally different from Badaling section. If you want to see the original appearance of the Great Wall this will be your first choice.
 
 
Juyongguan Pass

Strongholds, temples, pavilions and warehouses are enfolded by the crooked wall of Juyongguan. The perfect blending of towering mountains, lush vegetation, ancient architectures and large quantities of cultural relics here make it a perfect hiking and cultural tour experience embracing both picturesque scenery and mysterious culture. Honored by Emperor Qianlong as “The Fairyland of Greenness, 居庸叠翠”, it ranks as the top of Eight Scenic Sites of Mt Yanshan.
 
Arrow Nock

Located in Badaohe Village, 30 km from Huairou County, Beijing City, Arrow Nock derives its name from its “W” shape, which resembles an arrow. It is the most primitive, magnificent, challenging and steepest part of the Ming Dynasty’s Great Wall. A holy place for photographers and an enchanting land for mountain hikers.

Featuring imposing enemy watching towers, steep and narrow steps and the most winding walls dance between valleys and cliffs wildly, you can experience the Great Wall with 100% primitive flavor and unparalleled charm here. Gubeikou

Constituted of four sections: Mt Wohushan, Mt Panlongshan, Jinshan Ridge and Simatai, Gubeikou is the key stronghold connecting Shanhaiguan Pass and Juyongguan Pass. The co-existence of the Great Wall of North Qi Period (550-577) and Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) makes it the most complete system of the Great Wall. It is the throat of central China, and for thousands of years, wars aiming to take control of it never ceased, especially during Liao, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Gubeikou has not been restored in a long time, thus you can enjoy the original flavor of the ancient Great Wall highlighted by dilapidated towers and broken walls.
 
Huanghuacheng
Hiking+ Adventure+See Great Wall along&under Water

Located 29 km from Huairou County and 60 km from Beijing, Huanghuacheng was built in North Qi Period (550-577). It belongs to the inner stretch of the Great Wall, the west end of Great Wall in Huairou County. The 12.94 km long Huanghuacheng snakes its way along the mountains and descends all the way down to the lake at its foot. It contains 49 enemy watching towers and is a landmark building with a wall with 18 teeth-shaped merlons. Feast your eyes on this unique wonder, you can stroll around the chestnut orchard nearby and taste the delicious local specialties in autumn.
 
Qinglong Gorge

Located 20km from Huairou County, Beijing City, Qinglong Gorge consists of Miyun Reservoir, Flying Dragon Waterfall and the Great Wall tourism section and it is the key stronghold of Mind Dynasty. You can see the ancient section of the Great Wall here, and in sunny days, you can catch a glimpse of Beijing city in mountain peak. During July to August, you can see the magnificent waterfall in Canglong Valley, and indulge in the entertaiment activities in Qinglou Valley.
 
Water Gate
Water Gate水关: Adventure+hiking+see the most solid part of Badaling

Built during the Ming Dynasty under the supervision of General Qi Jiguang, Water Gate is 40 km northwest of downtown Beijing. This V-shaped section of the Great Wall is the best preserved part of Badaling, featuring a steep and winding course.
 
Jinshan Ridge

Situated among Mt Yanshan, the intersection part of Miyun County and Luanping County in Hebei Province, 140 km from Beijing, Jinshan Ridge Great Wall starts from Longyukou in the west and ends at Wangjinglou in the east, covering a distance of 10.5 km. 67 Enemy watching towers of various shapes are densely distributed here, among which 24 preserve their original looks. Based on giant stones measuring 5-8 m, Jingshan Ridge Great Wall is famed for its enticing scenery. It is relatively safe compared to Arrow Nock, and local guides are available to guarantee your safety. Another advantage here is that you do not have to follow the original route to return, unlike other sections of the Great Wall.
 
 
Simatai
World Heritage Site+the most marvelous Section+Original look of Ming Dynasty

Simatai is the only section that retains the original outlook of the Ming Dynasty. In 1987, it was enlisted as a World Heritage Site. Situated in Gubeikou County, 120 km from Beijing, the 5.4 km long Simatai features novel designs, innovative structure and various forms, which lives up to the name of the highlight of the Great Wall. Luo Zhewen, the famous Great Wall expert remarked: “Just as the Great Wall tops among the seven world wonders, Simatai is the king of the Great Wall.” Simaitai is famous for its steepness. Along the cliff there are 14 enemy watching towers densely distributed, and not far away is the Heaven Staircase with an angle of 85 degree along the 900 m high cliff, with steps that only allow one foot. And there is no railing.

 2.Main Sections of the Great Wall in Hebei Province

 

Shanhaiguan Pass
See the Great Wall meets the Sea

Shanghaiguan is the place the Great Wall meets the sea. Made up of seven strongholds and enclosed by a wall measuring 4769 m in length, 11.6 m in height and 10 m in thickness, the stately Shanghaiguan overlooks the sea with kingly air. It was thought to be the east end of the Great Wall, till the discovery of Hushan Great Wall. The 26 km long Shanghaiguan Pass comprises sections of the Great Wall that include Old Gragon Head (老龙头), Jiumenkou (九门口), Jiaoshan (角山) and Three Pass (三道关), etc.
Dajing Gate
the rising star of the Great Wall+ the Numer One Gate of the Great Wall

Located in Zhangjiakou city, Hebie Province, Dajing Gate is the only pass named after a gate. It is one of the Top Four Passes of the Great Wall. Built in 1485 on the basis of the Great Wall of Northern Wei Dynasty, it enjoys a history of over 500 years. Dajing Gate is 12 m in height, 9 m in width and its base measures 13 m in width. East of it lies the Xiaojing Gate, south of it sits the Zhangjiakou Stronghold. Dajing Gate is blessed with two enemy watching towers, one Water Gate and one Fire Signal Station of Northern Wei Dynasty. The Dajing Gate is currently under restoration; the local government striving to shape it into a historical and cultural site as famous as Pingyao Ancient City and Shanhai Pass.

 3. Main Sections of the Great Wall in Gansu Province 

  
Jiayaguan Pass
the west end of the Great Wall+the first stop of Silk Road

Located in the west end of the Great Wall, Jiayuguan was constructed in 1372. It boasts compete defense system and is the best preserved pass as well as the first stop along Silk Road. Its trapezoidal floor covers an area of over 33,500 m2, enfolded by city wall measuring 733 m in length and 11.7 m in height. The landmark architecture here is 17 m high, and you can enjoy the peculiar frontier scenery here.
 
 
4.Main Sections of the Great Wall in Liaoning Province
 
 
 
Hushan

Located in Dandong City, Liaoning Province along the Yalu River, Hushan Section of the Great Wall marks the east end of the Great Wall. Standing on Hushan Fire Signal Station, you can overlook Yizhou in Korea, the skyscrapers of Dandong City, the Yalv River Bridge and catch a glimpse of the Yellow River.

Situated in Liaoning Province, 15 km from Shanghaiguan Pass, Jiumenkou covers a distance of 1704 m. It emerges along the cliff in the south and joins the coming section of Shanghaiguan Pass, and then it runs northward along the mountain ridge all the way down to Jiujiang River. A giant bridge was erected above the Jiujiang River, and people describe it as: “The Great Wall flies over the river and the river goes through the Great Wall.”

5.Main Sections of the Great Wall in Shangxi Province
 
 
DatongDatong city was an important military barrier during the Ming Dynasty, when the 335 km long Datong Section of the Great Wall was built. It is home to 72 castles and 776 frontier towns. It is the key culture protection site in Shangxi Province.
