Wen Feng Pagoda

Some locals regard Wen Feng Pagoda (安阳文峰塔) is being the symbol of Anyang Town. It is unique in architecture: the higher levels are big while the lower are small. It is now located at the old site of Tianning Monastery (天宁寺) in northwestern Anyang.

Tianning Monastery was built in early seventh century AD and Wen Feng Pagoda constructed in 952 AD, at that time it called Tianning Monastery Pagoda, which had been renovated many times during Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. 

It is brick structure with wooden eaves. The octagonal shaped architecture is built on a circular "lotus" base. The eaves have five levels, to which the top one is the biggest, and the lower the smaller. Also, the layouts and designs are slightly different from one another. Small bells are attached at corners of the eaves, they will toll when the wind brows. The sound will give a tranquil and holy feeling. There are four doors "opened" on the "lotus" base of Wen Feng Pagoda, but there is only one door, which is the one that faces south, can be opened. On the doorframe, it beautifully carved the stone image of two dragons playing a pearl ball. The each of the eight corners has an elegant column with giant dragon image. There are bass-relief images of Buddhist legends between the columns. Moreover, of course, there are many majestic Buddhist statues seen.
