Memorial Temple of General Yue Fei in Tangyin County

Yue Fei (岳飞, 1103 – 1142) was born in Tangyin County (汤阴县), Anyang of Henan Province in central China. At the age of 20, he joined the Southern Song Dynasty's army and he obtained military governorship twelve years later. Yue Fei became a general insisting to resist the invading northern tribe of Jin. He led northern military expeditions four times, and, at last, betrayed by the Qin Hui and Gao Zong from the political faction that wanted to surrender, General Yue Fei had been executed at the age of 39.

The people in General Yue Fei'shometown built a temple, which is now located on Xi Nan Street in Tangyin County to memory him.

The Yue Fei Temple was originally called Loyal and Honest Temple (精忠庙, Jing Zhong Temple). The actual date of build is unknown. The present address of Yue Fei Temple was a rebuilding constructed in 1450 and expanded a few times in later ages. Today it is a 4,000-square-meter architectural spectacular, with about a hundred majestic halls and some beautiful corridors. 

The front hall is the main architecture of the Yue Fei Temple. Tablets carved the words of memory and praise were inscribed by Qing Dynasty's Guang Xu Emperor and Dowager Cixi are installed at the top of the doorframe. The great words, "Return Me My Fatherland" (还我河山), were said written by General Yue Fei, carved on a giant tablet in golden characters and hanged above the statue of Yue Fei.

Loyal and Honest Archway is in wooden structure built in the Ming Dynasty. The five elegant "roofs" are being supported by six large and strong wooden columns, on the left and right sides inlaid "Loyalty" (忠) and "Piety" (孝) respectively, depicting the great personality of the great Chinese general.

The stele forest collects the documents about the poetic dedications to Yue Fei and the historical records of the temple's renovation back in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
