Zhenfeng Pagoda

Zhenfeng Pagoda is located near to Yangtze River, and it is widely called No.1 Pagoda of 10-thousand-mile Yangtze River. It was elaborately designed by the old Taoist of Baiyun Temple in Beijing. It is said that people established this pagoda for prevailing the culture and education. It was established in Ming Dynasty, roughly 400 years ago.

Pagoda was sent into China from India as the Buddhism was gradually accepted by Chinese people, later it was combined with Chinese traditional architectural theory, and finally the Chinese-style Buddhist architectural culture was fixed. The pagoda was used for keeping the Essence of Buddha. So it is the holy object for Buddhism believers’ worship. A pagoda is always the center of a temple. Afterwards, as the bloom of Buddhism architectures, the importance of pagoda was gradually reduced and later some pagodas were lost. On the contrary, in Chinese traditional gardens, pagoda was adopted for garden design.

The temple is generally comprised of the halls, pavilions, towers, houses, pagodas and gardens. It covers 220,000 square meters. On the gate, there are three golden characters written in regular Chinese by Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty. In 2006, as the old architectural buildings of Ming Dynasty, Zhenfeng Pagoda was listed into the sixth batch of national key cultural relic protection units.
